Inspiration for the LMT Project

The LMT Project is a heartfelt initiative inspired by my late mother, Lillian, who loved supporting young people in our community. As an educator and school counselor for 26 years, I returned to my hometown to develop an enrichment program aimed at helping youth, especially those from hardworking families needing affordable support.

During my time in 7th to 12th grade, there were no programs in my community that provided enrichment opportunities for kids like me. I came from hardworking, everyday families where parents couldn’t afford to spend thousands of dollars each year on college and career preparation. Access to this information could have been invaluable, helping me with scholarships, career exploration, and financial literacy (such as credit, debt, and budgeting), as well as decision-making. These resources would have allowed me to save money, time, and effort, and avoid regrets by simply being informed.

I never had a personalized plan to guide my life, which would have helped me identify my dreams, set achievable goals, and learn how to bounce back after setbacks. While I was fortunate to possess natural determination, having access to enrichment and inside knowledge would have enabled me to work smarter, not harder, ultimately making my life more productive and reducing unnecessary stress. Therefore, if I can assist today’s youth in gaining the knowledge they need to achieve their goals and dreams, I would be honored to do so.

This program draws on effective strategies I've used in various educational settings and is tailored to meet individual student needs, promoting social/emotional well-being, educational success, and future readiness. I have built a team of like-minded individuals focused on personal development to help students thrive in life and learning.
